Louise Dahl-Wolfe: A Photographer's Scrapbook

San Francisco native, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, became one of the most celebrated fashion photographers of the early 20th century for her pioneering use of natural lighting in fashion photography. As a staff photographer for Harper's Bazaar, Dahl-Wolfe often juxtaposed her models with famous works of art, resulting in surprising and irreverent compositions.

The following is a re-conceptualization of one of the most famous compilations of Louise Dahl-Wolfe's photography and musings, Louise Dahl-Wolfe: A Photographer's Scrapbook. Through an exploration of grids and the relationship between type and image, a final piece was developed that worked together typographically, structurally, and visually.
